Let us introduce you!
Marketers, designers, software engineers … just a few of the people who dive into each of our partners’ missions, goals and values in order to create custom revenue and enrollment growth solutions. Every single person at Collegis is integral to our ability to deliver for our partners. We sat down with Digital Marketing Supervisor Hunter Slack to learn more about who he is and how he supports our partners.
How would you describe your job to someone outside of the field?
I’m the person behind all of the ads that follow you around on the internet.
Name three words that describe your role at Collegis.
How does your role help support our partners?
My role is directly tied to generating leads for our partners. Leads turn into starts. Starts keep our partners in business and thriving.
What are some common questions you hear from coworkers or partners throughout the day?
- “What are we pacing to?”
- “Will we meet our monthly goals?”
- “What keywords are people searching for?”
- “What creative is performing in marketing? What changes can we make?”
What skills do you need to succeed in your role?
Important hard skills:
- Knowledge of marketing platforms (i.e., Google Ads, Facebook, Google Analytics)
- Microsoft Excel
- General proficiency in math is helpful
Important soft skills:
- Verbal and written communication
- Ability to translate data into a story
What do you enjoy most about your role at Collegis?
Given my job relies heavily on technology, my favorite part is that things don’t stay stagnant for too long. Platforms are constantly rolling out new features and getting rid of old ones. Although it can be frustrating at times, it keeps me on my toes and challenges me to think in innovative ways.
What do you enjoy most about Collegis?
The people and the flexibility. Our team is very close-knit and with that I know I can always come to my coworkers with problems or bounce ideas off of them. We always make time for each other to make sure no one is getting left behind. Additionally, the flexibility Collegis offers allows me to have enough time to enjoy my life outside of work.
What drew you to work in the higher education field?
While it may not be as flashy as other industries, most of our employees are at least somewhat familiar with what the process, experience and outcomes are. I think this helps us as individuals to more easily visualize the impact we’re making. The ultimate goal is to encourage people to invest in their education for a better life. While we’re still marketing to people to buy a “product,” it’s nice knowing that it’s likely to make a positive impact in people’s lives at the end of the day.
Where did you go to college and what degree did you obtain?
I attended the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities and earned a BS in Marketing.
What do you value most from your own college experience?
What will likely stick with me the most from my college experience is learning about other individuals’ stories and experiences. Whether it was personal or for business, I think most of the learning I did was through talking with my professors and colleagues. Discussing how they view a certain topic and what factors led them to forming their opinions was very valuable to me.
What qualities do you look for when adding members to your team?
What is one thing you’ve learned about higher ed since you started working at Collegis?
One thing that caught my attention very quickly was how competitive today’s higher ed landscape is. With a declining student population and a large number of options in market, many of our partners are still looking for answers as to what their niche may be and how that differentiation can support their institutional goals.
What’s something you’re hoping to check off your bucket list?
I really want to take a BBQ road trip through the U.S. My team and I have discussed loading up my conversion van and making it happen.
